Sigh. Here we go.
I was getting ahead of myself when I started working on my panels. I didn't storyboard as much as I should've, or at least, I didn't really follow my storyboards because there were always complications of some sort (often involving technical skill). I was on my 10000th rework of the first chapter when I found a bump in my main character. I... kinda hated her. I counted on her character arc to redeem her. It wasn't like she was evil. She was whiny and kinda sheltered. But that's not really compelling, and I'm pretty sure people aren't gonna stick around long enough to see how her character plays out with my current artistic skills right now. Sooooo back to the drawing board we go. I had a general idea of what my characters were like but didn't fully plan out their backstories yet (only certain remarkable moments and general characteristics), so I gave my main character legitimate reasons for how greasy she could act sometimes, in addition to giving my mysterious male protagonist a backstory that actually combined his magical powers and cosplay-loving dweeb self in a way that made sense. My second female protagonist, the firsts' best friend, used to have a really tragic history and gross family, and this was supposed to be hinted throughout the comic and revealed shockingly at a turning point. However, I decided against giving her that backstory because I'm not as pseudo-emo as I was when I first thought of the comic, so now she's the trusty braniac sidekick who helps out her bff with all those wacky missions.

is over (/almost over, if you count weekends).
Hello lovely comic readers, here's a spiel about my work the past few days. You may be thinking, "Hey, Helen said she'd have her comic out this week. Where is it at though??" This is what happened. I spent six hours drawing a tiled floor and I'm upSET
Imma write a detailed post just specifically for this floor right after I write the club post birb. Yes. Hello.
Life has been a thing, but this is a part of my life too. I've been practicing drawing / anatomy / stuff over the summer, and I'm making progress on my comic. The first ep. of Bloodsdream (previously Chasing Cassandra) will be released very, very soon. Probably during the first week of expeditions. I'm hoping to be able to publish to Webtoons and Tapastic every week or every other week. At first, I was just going to do a black and white sketchy comic, but I decided to take it further and do it in full color to improve as an artist. I know it's time consuming (one panel took me 3 hours uhhh) but it's been rewarding too! I've learned lots about Medibang Paint Pro (free phone / computer app) over the summer, and have a lot of hax, which I'll be sharing in a blog post soon. Or maybe a workshop, if yall want one. I wanna make a zine with my OCs this year. I could probably do a cool sticker pack too.. Things are goin good. I'll update w another post when I release the first ep!!!! See ya Helen So, signin off |
